Wolves vs Aston Villa – Pre-game Assessment

By all normal measures, Wolves have to be favored over our Villans this Saturday.  They are ten points ahead of us in the table.  They beat us earlier in the season at Villa Park, coming back from a 2-0 deficit at the 80-minute mark to prevail 3-2.

Of course, being a derby match meant that Villa Park’s away team enclosure was packed and vocal.  Wolves’ traveling supporters were a big boost to their team.  In fact, Wolves have won more away games than they have at home (8 versus 6).

Our Villans having already won six games away from home this season, including one at Old Trafford, is reason enough for a Villa fan to be optimistic.  The derby factor will see our fans filling Molyneux with their voices and support.

Also, Wolves will be coming off their own demoralizing loss at home to Leeds where the second half collapse after Jimenez was ejected, saw them lose a 2-0 lead.  The Yorkshire team was the beneficiary, 3-2, helping that team to claw their way from the relegation zone.

One other reason to feel hopeful, is the reality that Wolves is not a free scoring team, and the loss of Jimenez due to those two yellow cards in the Leeds game will only exacerbate that problem.

On the basis I see our claret and blues holding Wolves to a tie.  Prediction:  Wolves 1, AVFC 1

Likely Starting xi:

Aston Villa (4, 3, 3): Martinez, Cash, Chambers, Mings, Digne, McGinn, Luiz, Sanson, Ings, Watkins, CoutinhoWolves (3, 4, 2, 1): Sa, Kilman
