Aston Villa vs Spurs – Pre-game Assessment

Looking at the current standings has to give any rational Villa fan pause.  Between us in 11th position and Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs), currently in 4th position, are three teams (Arsenal, West Ham, and Wolves) we have played in the last 4 weeks.  In those games we have managed to accumulate two goals and zero points.

Over the same period, Spurs have scored ten goals and tallied nine points while conceding only two goals, in part thanks to their two excellent additions (Betancur and Kulusevski).

Thankfully, we are playing at Villa Park, and we can look back at our reverse fixture at their stadium in October where the result was a respectable 2-1 loss, and the winning (own) goal was scored by none other than Matt Targett who now plays for Newcastle!

Our mini-losing streak follows a similar winning streak of three games.  As noted previously, our Villans are sorely in need of belief and an early goal against them invariably creates uncertainty bordering on panic.

The trick, again, is for us to get the first goal.  It is time for us to catch some luck, in which case we can beat Spurs just as Burnley did at Turf Moor in February.

Prediction:  AVFC 1, Spurs 0.
