Aston Villa vs Norwich – Pre-game Assessment

After our Villans benefited from playing a team, Leicester, whose focus was elsewhere (Europa Conference League), we now have to face the team, Norwich, managed by our former manager, Dean Smith who will be very focused on the game at hand.

The Canaries, despite being at the bottom of the Premier League, are playing as if they still believe they can survive.  That this would require an almost miraculous five-game winning streak and a simultaneous collapse by two of Everton, Burnley and Leeds does not appear to phase them.

Norwich, in fact, need their own league, situated between the Premier and Championship Leagues.  They are, evidently, too good for the latter and not good enough for the former, having been perennially in this fix.

That’s their worry – our Villans concern is to make sure this pesky team does not do what they did at Brighton a few weeks ago, and that was hang on (tallying zero shots on goal) for a 0-0 tie.

Odds are that Ramsey and Watkins will individually, or together, repeat what they did at Carrow Road.

Prediction:  AVFC 2, Norwich 0

Likely Starting xi:

Aston Villa (4, 3, 3): Martinez, Cash, Chambers, Mings, Young, McGinn, Luiz, Ramsey, Ings, Watkins, Coutinho

Norwich: Krul, Byram, Hanley, Zimmerman, Giannoulis, Norman, McLean, Lees-Melou, Dowell, Rashica, Pukki
