Season 2021/2022, A Step in the Right Direction

While not a resounding sign of great things to come, holding Leicester to a tie at King Power Stadium was certainly better than another loss.  It certainly appeared that our Villans were determined not to lose and, in holding the Foxes to two shots on goal out of five shots taken, the team showed real mettle.

That they were unable to score themselves was less significant in that there is plenty of goal potential in the squad (Watkins, Ings, Ramsey, Buendia and more).  While all Villans would like to see another performance along the lines of our dismantling of Southampton just last month, we just have to get some solid wins first.

That we could hold a decent team scoreless was a good start.  That we retained our composure was another plus.  That Watkins could function as almost a lone striker and not get frustrated reminded me of greats of the past like Jürgen Klinsmann.

In what was one of very few Ashley Young’s starts at left back, he was reassuringly solid and, with concentrating on defense, Matty Cash was equally sound.  Let us stay that way and save our ammunition for the visit to Burnley and the hosting of Liverpool coming up next.
