Season 2021/2022, Arsenal outplay and out-hustle our Villans and take all three points

For not the first time this season, our Gerrard-led Villans surprised their fans with a subpar performance.   Given the commitment that Stevie brought to every game himself, week in week out, this comes as a bit of surprise. Gerrard seems to attribute the problem to a lack of belief.  Certainly, rebuilding the line-up in his own image, including the swagger, will take a while.

It was apparent in the recent mini-win streak, that the first goal transformed the team and set them on their way to commanding performances.  Similarly, when we found ourselves behind at home to Leeds, we languished until Coutinho’s tying goal.  After that, we quickly added two more brilliant goals in 13 minutes.

Conversely, when Daniel James snuck the ball into the net for his second goal just before the break, our second half performance was baleful and we let Leeds tie the game.

Against Arsenal, we never got out of first gear and had to wait until almost the last kick of the game to get our first shot at goal.  Fittingly, it was from a set-play and, deservedly, the goalie saved, and the Gunners preserved their win, 1-0.

It will take a lot more grit for us to come away from Molyneux with anything.  However, with a Gerrard-led team, you never know.

This could be the pivotal game that solidifies a place in the top half of the Premier League.  Nothing else is acceptable to the owners, the management, and the fans.
