Season 2021/2022, Our Villans lose ugly in Newcastle

Having a vastly superior squad of players proved futile on Sunday when a desperate Newcastle, under Eddie Howe, found a way to create a goal from a dead ball kick and frustrate our Villans for the rest of the 90 minutes.

A lack of drive and imagination guaranteed that we were not going to get any satisfaction from our trip up north.  Once the Magpies took the lead in the 35th minute, they showed little interest in attacking and our defense had little to worry about.

What we desperately needed was ferocious offense of the likes put on by Man City and Liverpool to break down a resilient team fighting for survival.  We got barely a fraction of that and counted only one shot on goal – a tepid free kick from Douglas Luiz that the Magpies’ Dúbravka gathered into his midriff.

Only Coutinho seemed at all animated but, with no help, even he ran out of ideas.  We can only hope that Gerrard can find a way to motivate and inspire a superior performance against Watford at home.

While I am terrified that we might lay another egg, I have to assume that we cannot do that twice in a row and will come out on top!
