Season 2021/2022, Villa beat Norwich, back on the winning track

Any Villa fan watching the first quarter of the game at Norwich live, might have wondered what had happened to the Gerrard boost.  There were times when the Canaries were dominating possession and looking the more imaginative and likely to score.

Then, a little piece of Ramsey magic changed everything.  From well in his own half, young Jacob Ramsey took the spoils from Douglas Luiz’s pilfering, pushed a pass forward to Watkins facing-up on the leftwing and was in full stride to accept our striker’s layoff at the halfway line.  For the next fifty yards four Norwich defenders raced, in a box, around Jacob, barely able to keep up.

Once in the area, he allowed Aarons to cross in front of him, slipped the ball to his left foot and blasted a shot over Tim Krul’s right shoulder that bulged the back of the net.  He may have picked up a beneficial nick off Aarons, but it was deserved good fortune for his endeavor.

That Fabinho clattered Ramsey early in Villa’s previous game at Anfield is a testament to how well the elite players respect the danger he poses.  Expect Gerrard to encourage more of the same – the scoring that is.

The game was never in doubt after that, though Ollie Watkin’s tap-in of an excellent set-up by young Carney Chukwuemeka was a deserved reward for his efforts and it completed another shut-out 2-0.

Now, all we have to do is keep the momentum going so we can force our way into European competition – the sooner the better.
